Austin Carroll

Austin Carroll blew past me with the stealth and swiftness that comes with eight years of professional bike riding. With an average power output of 330 watts up the hill after seven loops of the San Dimas Stage Race Time Trial on Glendora Mountain Road, his average speed of 15.5 mph kept my camera busy. His strategy was bruising. One time all out. The next round at a slightly slower tempo. He encountered a healthy mix of long boarders, motorcycles and foot traffic. Riding for Team Simple Green this year Austin's March race schedule includes Tour de Murietta, San Dimas Stage Race and the Redlands Bicycle Classic.

I got a kick out of his video logs, twitter and a more cycling centric bio from the Ouch Team.

Good luck Austin. My camera will be watching for you.

Catching up with Bill 2/21 and 2/22

Bill calls this the road not taken. A much warmer day for Bill than my ride on Monday. Oh those retired folks picking the best times to ride.
Bill got out on Wednesday as well. The view of GMR from the ridge trail. This is the road taken.

SDSR GMR Time Trial

The San Dimas Stage Race Glendora Mountain Road Time Trial just got a little tougher. Less Flat. More Up. No the mountain did not move significantly, but the Start and Stop lines for this race did. The overall mileage stays the same at 3.7 or 3.8 miles. The new race start line is closer to mile marker 13.59. The lettering is still visible on the road. The race finish happens after the first right hand curve beyond the guard rail. If you reach mile marker 9.77 you have gone to far. Look for these markings on the road side.

Start. After the Adventure Pass Sign and before mile maker 13.59 (show in photo).
Stop. After the guard rail, first right hand curve and before mile marker 9.77.

Long Boarding

This clip makes me want to give up the bike for a board!

Monroe Truck Trail

Monroe Truck Trail is on the opposite side of Little Dalton Canyon from Glendora Mountain Road. They cross paths a mile marker 5.3 or just a quarter mile from the shed. These intrepid cyclers cruised down the trail.

Host an Athlete

2012 San Dimas Stage Race Looking For Host Families
San Dimas, California (February 09, 2012) - The San Dimas Stage Race organization is searching for families in the San Dimas Area who would like to host riders for the 2012 race! Host housing is needed for the professional men’s and women’s bicycle racing teams competing at the 2012 San Dimas Stage Race – an opportunity for families in the area to connect with National Champions, Olympians, future Olympians, and hard-working racers striving to fulfill dreams in professional bike racing. The race runs from March 16-18 but teams typically arrive 1-2 days before the race and usually leave the day after the race. We are in search of families who live within a 30-minute maximum drive of San Dimas, CA. Opportunities exist to host men’s and women’s teams. See www.sandimasstagerace.com for race information. Host homes need to provide: a bed space (couch or air mattress is fine) for each rider, kitchen privileges and refrigerator space; garage or other safekeeping space for bicycles. Host homes ARE NOT expected to provide: transportation or food the Teams will provide there own transportation and meals. However most families do like to provide some shared meals, but are not expected to do so. Host families are encouraged to engage with their guest racers, as experience shows that involved host families find the experience most rewarding when they connect with their guests. Come watch them race, talk to them find out what the life of a professional road cyclist is all about. If you would like to host a cycling team, please send an email to HostHousing@sdsr.info with the following information: Name, address, City, Phone, Email and the number of riders you can host. Whether you can host one or two riders, or whether you and your neighbors can host a full team of eight; we want to hear from you!
