Rod walked his bike down the long straight away near the first hairpin turn with a flat tire. He needed a new tube and a pump. Fortunately a SAG driver for another cyclist assisted. Matt offered his tube and the driver had a full push pump. Rod was able to ride up the road. The marine layer was thicker today. So thick it looked walkable. It was a day to help others and make new friends.

Currently, there is a brown haze on the top of the San Gabriels, all the way to Mt Wilson, so it is likely impacting the air quality on GMR.

Call me El Loco GMR. Loco or Crazy as I was the only cyclist on the road at 5 pm Wednesday. Crazy as the afternoon temperatures were in the mid 90s. Crazy as I pushed a bit faster against heat and up and head winds. Crazy as I dreamed of an ice pack on my back. The best part of crazy was air that felt breathable. I took the corners out of the saddle. I pondered where the Wednesday evening riders were. Got to the first saddle enjoyed the

Monday is the race for truth. From the moment the alarm bell sounds at 4:30 am until my head hits the pillow it is a rush to make train and connecting bus. Participate in meetings. Cram in leftovers. More meetings. Reverse the bus and train. Prep for bike ride. By the corner of Sierra Madre and GMR the heat has sweated the day out of you. All that is left is road and pedaling. The reward is the vista. The reward is the downhill after pushing upwards against head winds. The reward is the euphoria from an hour of uphill. The reward is evading motorists for a perfect summer ride.
