Monday and Tuesday I got out for a short ride to first saddle. Time to shake off the holidays and burn the pumpkin pie from the legs. Tuesday was warmer. I got out earlier around 2 pm. Fewer people on the road. Sweet.

A call to action

Bob Eckhoff is gathering the eager to make GMR beautiful once again. On Thursday Nov 10 I'm asking for volunteers to help me and my friend Chris to clean up the appalling trash strewn about on Glendora Mountain Road. We will meet at 7am at the dirt turn off at the bottom of GMR. Bring gloves and any tools you can, rakes barrels, etc. If anyone who lives in the Glendora area has time Mike at the ranger station will provide us with trash bags if we can pick them up on Monday or Tuesday. Otherwise I will provide them. Let's try to make our favorite riding road look like this picture again.

Saturday ride with Joan. Heather and Cathy.

My ride Tuesday evening. Cool. Cloudy. Wishing I had my Gore jacket for the descent.

Tow truck pulling a car up the hillside that crashed.

Bill is on the road 3 or more times a week.

Joan rides GMR frequently

Matt is old-school GMR riding 3-4 times a week since 2000.

Chuck is a new buddy who rides GMR daily.

Rick rides GMR once a month
The clouds were overhead and high enough not to rain. The temperature was warm in the 60-70s. Perfectly gorgeous day to be outside. See friends and stretch the bicycle legs.

Car Jacking on GMR / GRR

Maybe it wasn't a carjacking after all. The story began with Two men carjacked a gray 2013 Hyundai early Saturday Morning at 3:30 am. Anyone with information can reach the sheriff’s San Dimas Station at 909-450-2709. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. However the story changed. The car was found over the side. Lots of reasons to be less than factual. http://www.sgvtribune.com/general-news/20161008/two-sought-after-carjacking-in-forest-north-of-glendora?source=most_viewed http://www.sgvtribune.com/general-news/20161010/authorities-question-report-of-carjacking-in-forest

I missed a blogger-tunity tonight. Cathy stopped a semi truck at the hairpin curve and asked him where he was going. He said "to the rest stop". She convinced him to not go up... So he backed up all the way past the gate. Crazy!

Sunday morning ride

It was the best of rides. It was the worst of rides. German drove his 2008 Dodge Charger on Glendora Mountain Road on his way to Baldy Village at 6 am in the morning. Joanna was seated beside him. He lost control of the car near mile marker 7.0. It was the longest moment of his life as the car flew over the edge and landed in a bush a few feet. The first responders roared up the mountain. Hook and Ladder. Paramedics. Ambulance. Sheriff's vehicles. Jan's Tow Truck. The long bed. German and Joanna were walking talking and a bit shaken. German said he was still paying for the car. Joanna had not yet eaten breakfast. It was 10 am. An extremely lucky couple. indeed.

A hunter lost a kill between mile Marker 7.0 and 7.26

Monday ride. Heather. Jamie. Friend. Bill. Matt. Len. The marine layer was thick and we waited for sun to warm us up. On the way down. Heather led with me next. Matt and Bill followed. Heather the better descender I allowed a gap to form. Matt saw his first tarantula on the road this year.

Missing cell phone found on GMR

Bill found a cell phone laying on the road a bit below mm 11.70. Bill dropped it off at the Glendora PD station.

Two hot ladies on a Monday night bike ride. Cathy and Heather spurred me up the hill. It was a hot evening in the low 90s. My stubbed toe did fine.

Saturday, August 27, 2016

Rod walked his bike down the long straight away near the first hairpin turn with a flat tire. He needed a new tube and a pump. Fortunately a SAG driver for another cyclist assisted. Matt offered his tube and the driver had a full push pump. Rod was able to ride up the road. The marine layer was thicker today. So thick it looked walkable. It was a day to help others and make new friends.

Blue Cut Fire

Here's an interesting perspective. Compare the size of the smoke cloud to the size of Mt Baldy in the foreground. That's a lot of smoke!

Currently, there is a brown haze on the top of the San Gabriels, all the way to Mt Wilson, so it is likely impacting the air quality on GMR.

Bill took this photo Wednesday morning. The valley was clear as a bell.

Escaping the house I walked Big Dalton Canyon Sunday morning. Has it been more than a year since my last visit. The biggest change is the clearing of trees south of the camp grounds. Goats don't use chain saws.
