The scorched earth is black with streaks of lighter coloring. Reminders of chemicals dropped to squelch the active flames. The burn area covers the middle range of the mountain. The grey streaks on top of the blackened earth stand out along the ridge. The normal road carve outs will lead your eye up the mountain side. This is the most eastern portion of the burn area. The area extends to the far left. The East Fork Road is the most impacted. The small hill in front has growing vegetation untouched by the flames. Some ridges survive with their ground cover in tact. Helicopters monitor the site from above. It is hot and the winds blow. There is another eight weeks of summer weather to ride out before the promise of cooler temperatures.
