It was a day of catching up and saying good bye to my friend, John. His plan is to help those in need in the third world. His ability to power up to the shed on his Fixie will be missed.
Joan waited for me at the shed. I was a bit late as I took photos. The bugs were out in full force. I swatted one biting me on the hand through my glove! Joan was ready to head down, while I ventured forth. Mike joined me on the ride to Glendora Ridge Road mile marker 4 - the Point of No Return.
The view from Fork plus four shows Glendora Ridge Road mile marker six turnout in the background.
The view from Glendora Ridge Road mile marker 8.3. It was a warm day and the lesson I learned was to use chilled water in the water bottles. Last week it was cloudy and chilly. This week it was sun, sun, sun.
The view never gets old.
I passed Norris on the way up to Glendora Ridge Road 8.3. He joined me on the down hill. And admired the view over the edge at mile marker 6.2.
His friend Leslie, caught up with us as we took photos.
The mental comfort of having others close by meant keeping up. I did
well on the hot ride up to Fork Plus 4 and didn't stop until the shed. I
rode back to the shed with Leslie and Norris. It was a good break to catch my breath slug some water and polish off the snack.

Monday Night Ride
Monday Night Ride is back with the power of three. Heather, Joan and myself rode up the road in the cool cloudy evening. The surprise fun was catching Steve I., Jayden and Adam on their mountain bikes. Adam who has two months of biking flew up the hill. A born climber.

A moment in the sun
Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California from Ontario California to Baldy Village stretched out for a grueling 80 miles with 13,000 feet of climbing on a cold grey May day. There was 30 seconds of sunshine and warmth. We soaked it all up and wanted more.
Julian Alaphilippe a French rider on the Etixx Quickstep team raced up the mountain as if it were flat to triumphant finish at the ski lifts of Baldy village with snow along the way. His two second lead over Peter Sagan earned him the yellow jersey. Alaphilippe is third in the photo wearing the white jersey of the Best Young Rider. Fourth in the photo is Laurens Ten Dam of the Lotto NL-Jumbo Team. Peter Sagan wore the yellow jersey of Best Rider overall in the general classification. Sagan is in the sixth position
The first pass on Glendora Ridge Road. The professional cycling photographer, Brian Hodes.
Bill captured the peloton on Glendora Ridge Road. Peter Sagan sported a Tinkoff Saxo Bank Team jacket (solid yellow). The red on his shorts helps identify him. Mark Cavendish was a few riders back in the Green Points Jersey.

Respite
The mountain road provides an escape from the world. Its curves that wind through oak trees worn by time with branches that reach for sky and deep roots that soak up the scant rain. It is the solitude that focuses the mind on the body while putting aside the worries. It is the joy of pain from pedaling your bike and discovering the grind is faster than before.
it is escape from worries. Escape from stresses. Escape from life. A challenge for the body to overcome the elevation. A challenge for the mind to overcome mental worries. A challenge for the soul to strive improvement.
