Heat. Sun. Hot dry wind. Shade. Snakes. Knee. Pedaling. Stay upright. The sun baked my skin as I darted between patches of shade. Twenty minutes earlier meant more sunshine. Hotter temperatures clearer air. I watched every wiggly black tar stripe for signs of life. The 3-4 foot black headed rattle snake on Monday startled Cathy Joan and I on Monday. The heat lulled my senses and on windy tunnel there was a skinny small striped snake in a bush over hanging the road. Very few people on the road. Downhill felt oh so good.
