Saturday on the Mountain
A welcome relief from the heat the cloud cover made the air feel chilly if only for a few minutes before the blood flow of the ride ramped up from the ascent. The pedaling was good. It was easy to get above the cloud layer of the valley and scenery of the mountains helped burn off the stress.
I noticed a squirrel posing on the branch of the buckwheat thoroughly enjoying its morning snack.
Met up with Sylvia and Cherrie. Sylvia stung by a bee through her glove a few weeks ago noted the insect levels were low.
Matt and Bill arrived.

Found Cell Phone
Please contact Joe if you have lost a cell phone on Glendora Ridge Road.
"This morning about 10 AM when I was biking back from Baldy Village (just a few miles into the return on GRR) I found someone's phone, an LG touch screen model for Sprint. I can't find out the phone# to call, since there is a lock code to enter when you turn it on."

Left the house at 8:15 much later than a hot August Sunday working its way up to 100+F. I noticed that I didn't have my normal pout of "I'm cold" as I started off up my street. It was already 80F warm and humid. I could have easily just sat inside like I did the day before. Lots of motorcycle traffic. More so than a Saturday. A few riders going up. I couldn't hang on long. No umph in the legs. Two nights of being awake at 2 am, sapped my energy. My goal quickly became ride to stay upright and not feel the pavement against my skin.
Kevin was waiting at the shed as I approached my end point. He succinctly stated, You seem a bit off pace. His words were to the point. Kevin has his big ride planned for the village on Labor Day weekend with Jason. Kai rode up a few minutes later. I was surprised by Shorty in his backpack. Nice shades Shorty. One cyclist flew up the hill to the shed, it could only be, yes it was, wait for, the colors look right, yes it was Ken (no picture). Damn that man is fast.
I met Dave on Thursday evening. It was pleasant

Catching up with me
Ray Clone is correct. I am living up to my name "MIA" and folks are wondering. I have managed some stealth rides and I am clawing my way back to fitness. There are hard core folks riding in the heat. I am keeping hydrated and slowing down to survive.
Greg is back on the mountain going strong.

High above Glendora Mountain Road, on a planet far, far away, an automobile sized rover landed in Gale Crater near Mt. Sharp.
This is a model here on earth.More fantastic photos are located here. They are pictures that are out of this world.

Tuesday and Thursday
I got a ride in on a Tuesday. It's been almost three weeks since I rode mid-week. Perhaps it was the smoke in the air from the fire or the humongous red blotch from a bug bite, but the ride on Saturday motivated me to do more. And I am ready after the Tuesday jaunt to head up again on Thursday.
Tony and Luis challenged me on the way up. Tony recognized my individual effort and described as a "good push" meaning I hammered on the way up. It was nice to have a few wheels to catch up to.
