Meeting Tonight on San Gabriel Recreation Area

There is a meeting tonight September 14 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Glendora Library Bidwell Forum on a National Recreation Area for the San Gabriel Mountains. All of you who use the Glendora Mountain Road should attend.

San Gabriel Valley Tribune article covers some concerns rasied during the El Monte Meeting: Bicyclists, conservationists disagree over best uses for San Gabriel Mountains.

My concern is that there have been 17 deaths so far this year with approximately 100 accidents. What plans are there for the safety for those who already use the area for recreation?

I don't think there is too much disagreement. San Gabriel Mountains forever is recommending new wilderness additions see: http://sangabrielmountains.org/

But, the NRA designation seems compatible with the goals of the other recreation groups.

Do you mean 17 deaths on the 22 or so mile stretch of GM Rd/GM Ridge Rd? I am suprised to hear that many in just the past 9 months or so. I am new to the area and find GMR one of my favorite rides so far.
